Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect after reaching out?
Complimentary 15-minute Phone Consultations

Nutrition services begin with a brief phone consultation. This provides an opportunity to get to know each other, discuss your needs and concerns, and allows me to answer any questions for you. If we determine we might be a good match to work together, we can schedule our first in-person sessions.

Before Your First Appointment
Prior to your initial nutrition appointment, you will receive an email from me with an invitation to a secure online system to fill out intake paperwork. I ask that these forms are completed before the first appointment.
Nutrition Services
Your initial nutrition appointment will be a 60-90 minute intake session. This is an opportunity to get to know you, learn more about why you are seeking support, and discuss your concerns, goals, and questions. Collaboratively, we will discuss your relationship with food currently, what your day-to-day eating is looking like, and also how it has changed over the years. As a team, we will start the process of creating a plan to support you in your healing and recovery.
Ongoing, we will schedule 50-minute follow-up sessions to check in on how things are going, what seems to be going well, and what challenges are arising between sessions. Together, we modify goals as needed and discuss tools to support each individual in working towards their goals. Frequency of sessions needed is discussed in session, collaboratively. Often for clients recovering from eating disorders and disordered eating, weekly sessions are recommended at the beginning of our working together for a period of time. There will often be collaboration with your other treatment providers, including psychiatrists, physicians, therapists or other providers, so that we can most effectively support you.
Do you accept insurance?

I do not accept insurance directly, nor am I listed on any insurance panels. If you have a PPO insurance plan, I would be considered an "out-of-network provider." Depending on your specific PPO plan, your insurance company may reimburse you for a portion of the session fee.

If you're interested in seeking reimbursement from your insurance, here is a general guide to the initial steps you can take:
What is a superbill?

A superbill is an itemized document provided by a healthcare provider that details the services or treatments provided to a patient. It acts as a receipt and includes the necessary codes—such as CPT codes for procedures and ICD codes for diagnoses—that insurance companies use to process reimbursement claims.

Patients often submit a superbill to their insurance provider if they are seeking reimbursement, especially when the provider is out-of-network or does not directly bill the insurance company.

What is the First Step in Understanding My Out-of-Network Coverage and Reimbursement?

To understand your out-of-network coverage and whether you’ll be reimbursed for services, start by contacting your insurance company. When you reach out, make sure to have the following information on hand:

-
CPT codes: 97802 & 97803
-
ICD-10 code: This code will be provided by your doctor.

Here are some key questions to ask your insurance provider:

-
Do you have out-of-network benefits? If so, what is your out-of-network deductible?
-
Have you met your deductible?
-
Does your insurance plan cover services provided by an out-of-network Registered Dietitian? (Some plans may have exclusions.)
-
What is your coinsurance rate, or the portion of the bill that you are responsible for?
-
What percentage of the bill will your insurer cover? This is the amount you may be reimbursed.
-
Is there a maximum amount your insurer will reimburse within a calendar year or other time period?
-
What is the process for filing a claim? Be sure to clarify the steps with your insurance company.

What is your cancellation policy?

Once you have a scheduled appointment, I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. Payment in full is due for any sessions cancelled within 24-hours.
I am interested in learning more about Intuitive Eating and Health at Every Size, although I am not sure I am ready to take that leap. Can I still work with you?

Yes! My clients often desire to be free from preoccupation with food and shame about their bodies, yet they also find it scary and difficult to shift their approaches to eating and relating to their bodies. It is completely understandable and expected to have mixed feelings and doubts when contemplating such a change. While my work is rooted in these philosophies, I want to align with you as you go through your unique process of exploration and healing.

Do I have to be diagnosed with an eating disorder to work with you?

Definitely not! While I enjoy working with those recovering from eating disorders, I also feel passionate about working with individuals who are struggling in any way to feel at peace in their relationship with food and their bodies. Due to living in our larger culture, many people have learned not to trust or accept their bodies as they are and have developed fraught relationships with food, exercise, and body image. I strongly believe that all people are worthy of receiving help and care around these struggles, regardless of diagnosis, size, or severity of behaviors. Similarly, I also work with families wanting to raise their kids in a body-positive and intuitive eating household and parents navigating feeding challenges with their kids.
